Tanarus

Downloads
First and foremost, let's make sure you have the basic requirements covered:

  1. Windows 95 or 98
  2. Pentium 120 MHz; 133+ recommended
  3. 16 MB RAM; 32 MB RAM recommended
  4. 3D accelerator recommended, but not required. Supports Direct3D.
  5. 28.8 Kbps modem; 33.6+ recommended
  6. 30 MB hard drive space for installation and maps
  7. 16-bit Sound Blaster or compatible
  8. DirectInput supported, with support for MS Sidewinder Pro, Precision Pro, and Force Feedback Pro

Tanarus won't run without DirectX 5.0 or higher. If you don't already have DirectX 5.0 or higher, go ahead and download and install it.

Large Tanarus Install (26,216 KB)

Small Tanarus Install (7,346 KB)

The Large install of Tanarus will give you all 13 Tanarus arenas. The Small install has only the training arena. All additional arenas will automatically download to your machine as you play Tanarus .

  1. Click either Large or Small Tanarus Install.
  2. Save the program in a location of your choice.
  3. Double-click on the file to begin the installation procedure.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts and Tanarus will be installed.

Tanarus Registry Update for Pre-Existing Tanarus Players (622 KB)

This update program is needed only by those players who last installed Tanarus from 989 Studios' site before 7/30/98. Running it updates the registry so that the lobby no longer tells you that Tanarus was not found.

  1. Click on the Registry Update link above.
  2. Save the program in a location of your choice.
  3. Double-click on the file to begin the update procedure.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts and Tanarus will be updated.

Tanarus Arenas (10,022 KB)

Newest Arenas (5,764 KB)

Neither of these files is a required download. These files are for those players who wish to have all the maps handy and do not wish to download them during the game. If you downloaded the Large Tanarus Install, you do not need the Tanarus arenas. Newest arenas are player-created arenas that you may play online by going to the Player Arenas section in Tanarus .

  1. Click either arenas link above.
  2. Save the file in the Tanarus directory.
  3. Double-click on the file to decompress it.

Tanarus Map Editor (609 KB)

Tanarus Cityset Texture Set (2,148 KB)

With these you can create Tanarus maps and send them to 989 Studios for possible inclusion on the Tanarus server for all to play.

  1. Click the "Tanarus Map Editor" link above.
  2. Save the file in a location of your choice.
  3. Create a new directory where you want to keep the map editor.
  4. Decompress the downloaded file into your map editor directory. Be sure to maintain the compressed file's directory structure.
  5. Repeat these steps with the "Tanarus Cityset Texture Set" file, decompressing the downloaded file into your map editor directory, also maintaining the directory structure.
