As the Suicide Spades lobbies
get more popular, many are asking what this game is and how people survive.
For those of you who don't know, the basic rule of Suicide Spades is that one of the partners must bid Nil, or Double Nil.
We kibitzed a group of pards who have "gone Suicide" together for over a year. They were extremely helpful with their advice.
Here are some tips that one of them passed on. This member preferred to remain anonymous.
- Rule number one is SUPPORT YOUR PARD! Both verbally and in the game.
- If your pard bids and forces you to Nil with the Ace of Spades, it is a good idea to trump a trick with it as soon as possible.
- Comparing bidding in Suicide to reg -- usually you can bid one or two higher in Suicide than you do in reg: you're going to take more tricks.
- Ducking tricks too low can force your pard to have to take a trick, so keep careful track of what your pard plays and sloughs on other suits.
- Just because your pard sloughs an Ace on a trick, you shouldn't expect that your pard now has low cards in that suit.
- If you can slough out a suit so you can trump it when a low card is played in that suit, you make nice protection for your pard. Protecting the Nil bid is most important. If the bidder goes set and the Niller doesn't, you lose only what you bid, not the sum of both bids like you do in reg.
- I have seen one pard strongly criticize another about plays. It really ruins the game for everyone. Suicide Spades is full of surprises and you can't win every time. The point is to have fun. Winning is nice, but it isn't everything. Criticism really isn't necessary.
