In this tutorial, I will help all you newbies play a good multiplayer game. I am writing what I know, what I've heard, and what other good players have told me. Throughout this article, I will use the abbreviation RB6 to refer to the game.
Where can I play multiplayer Rainbow Six?
You can play free at the MSN Gaming Zone. The process is simple. Go to the Rainbow Six game rooms page and choose a room that suits you. The rooms that currently have a game are the ones with a circle (table) in the center and a number of areas (seats) around the table. The taken seats are orange and the empty ones are black. You can enter a room with an empty seat simply by clicking on the seat.
Latency
The Red, Orange and Green circles in the top corner of the room represent the room's latency. Latency is the speed the room is playing versus the speed that your computer plays. Rooms with green mean the latency is good. You should enter these rooms. Rooms with a yellow circle means the latency is medium. However, the rooms with a red circle indicate poor latency. I don't recommend entering these rooms. Once you have entered, if the game has already begun, click Join to join the game. If the game is ready to start and the host is waiting, just wait, and the host will launch the game.
How do I start?
Ok, you're done downloading. Now, you see a list of rooms on the right. Left click on an empty space and click. If nothing happens after a minute, press ESC and change rooms. If something happens, you will be brought to a screen with a dialog box, here you can talk to whoever is in the room. Afterwards, it will bring you to another room with another dialog box where you can choose your weapons and inventory (you can also choose your team Blue or Gold). The host then chooses when to start the game.
Lag
When you're playing and you are warping everywhere, there is lag. When you see people running into walls, there is lag. When you shoot someone and he doesn't die, there is lag. Lag is caused by other players who have slower modems. It could also be caused by different modem speeds, for example a 33.6 and a cable together will not be synchronized and there might be lag.
