Best Chess Set Contest Winners Announced
We have selected the three lucky winners of our Best Chess Set Competition, which ran from June 10 through July 15. All of the sets were strikingly beautiful and original, which made it very difficult to choose the winners. Entries were received from the United States, Canada, South America, Africa and Australia.

First Prize
![]() The chess set in the photo sent in by Lyle Estill from North Carolina won the Grand Prize: a Classic Chess Clock autographed by World Champion Garry Kasparov. This life sized, stainless steel chess set is the creation of metal sculptor Lyle Estill and The Moncure Chessworks. Says Estill, "When I win at chess, I'm an accomplished player--when I lose I'm just the artist." Second Prize ![]() The lovely Mermaid Chess Set in the picture from Alex won Second Prize, a $50 gift certificate for Amazon.com. Third Prize ![]() The photo from David Carraher and Cara diMattia, both of Cambridge, Massachusetts, won Third Place - an MSN Gaming Zone Prize Package with a denim Zone shirt, Zone mouse pad and Zone fisherman's hat. His terra cotta chess set consists of hand-made figurines from the history and folklore of Brazil's Northeast. We are grateful to all of you who entered your very beautiful chess sets - thank you for making it a wonderful, enriching event. And thank you for participating in Kasparov vs. The World!
