It's all about teams. You cover their back; they cover yours. Here are some quick tips for you!

Deja vu
Be very careful about what state (health, armor, ammo, etc.) your character is in when you exit a map. Because of course that is the condition you will start the next map in. But what you might not know is, if you die on the current map, you will be reborn at the start of the current map in the same condition you left the previous map in! For example: say you finished map Silversprings Town with only 12 health, and no armor. You picked up powerups in map Silversprings Palace and were doing pretty good until the Celestial Watcher killed you. Now you will be reborn at the start of Palace with only 12 health and no armor, and the map will be depleted of powerups. Good luck facing the Watcher...
Can we talk?
Communication in Co-operative play is key. The monsters are all harder to kill, because it is assumed you have backup. But there are no more powerups or shrines on the map than if there were only one person playing. So those powerups need to be divided fairly amongst your party members, or you could end up facing a Boss alone because your partners have no health or ammo to assist you. Always check the status of your party (allow time to shag powerups if necessary), before exiting a map.
Save me!
This may seem like a no brainer, but it is easy not to do in a game this fun. Save the game before every major encounter that you know of. Save anytime you and the rest of your party are fat with health and ammo. Save halfway through a map, so you don't have to restart from the beginning. Save before you attempt to make that easy jump across the pit of burning lava. Use the Quicksave/Quickload keys (F5 & F6 by default). Remember, only the Host can save or load the game. Warn party members that you are about to save a game. The pause that occurs can be fatal at times.
