Grog's Contract

History of the Allegiance
My name is Grog. I was birthed on a battlefield near Dryreach, where my parents lived. Soon after I was born, the midwife asked my mother if she was going to feed me, to which she replied, "Give him grog -- I have a battle to fight." As she rushed off into battle, the midwife asked her what my name would be. "Grog!" was the reply. Funny how things like this happen. She died in that tumerok assault.

Eventually, Dryreach became stronger, and built walls and defenses around the community. It is a bastion against the tumeroks' invasion into the eastern half of Dereth, and a strategic point, as the tumeroks have created a portal directy into the Direlands, from where they seem to get their reinforcements. There are many tumerok forts in the Direlands, and rumors exist of a strong fortress; I shall send raiding parties out from time to time in order to keep the tumeroks' numbers down around Dryreach, and if my followers prove strong enough, we will make raids into the very heart of the Direlands, which I will participate in myself.

Our alliance is dedicated to ridding Dereth of the tumeroks, an evil scourge. Secondly, rumors of the Olthoi coming back into the land have surfaced, and these creatures must be dealt with. The Aluvian people will not be enslaved a second time!

Allegiance Philosophy
Our allegiance takes its form from the idea of service and duty. A noble owes duty of service to his Patron, who might be a Baron or Knight. In return, his Patron owes protection from danger, and food, money, etc., when times are bad. For his own part, the Patron owes fealty (the word that encompasses this idea of reciprocal responsibilities) to his own Patron, and so on up the ladder to the Monarch. In return for their service as good stewards of the land and readily-available warriors, the Monarch owes Knights, Barons, and other high nobles protection, honor, and a return of money, food, etc., in times of hardship. It is something like the idea of a Pyramid club, but the benefits are greater and the idea of personal honor and mutual responsibility, not profit, tie the structure together.

Allegiance Structure
The Allegiance is separated into two basic groups: Warriors and Sorcerers. This is not hard and fast, meaning that people are welcome to join into either branch, it is for convenience only. There will be a Senior Mage, who will oversee the development of all the mages in the Allegiance, and there will be a Senior Warrior with the same duties. The Senior Mage will have first choice of all majicks, and will distribute the rest as they see fit. The same holds true for the Senior Warrior.

Grievances
At any time you may petition Grog for aid with grievances or problems. However, you should always use your chain of command and speak with your Patron first.

Promotions
Promotions within the Allegiance will be offered at a later time, on a merit basis.

Rules/Regulations
There are a few rules for this allegiance:

Respect Asheron and the protection and freedom he has given us, for it is precious. Those who forsake Asheron will instantly be removed from the Allegiance, and will not be allowed back in until they have regained Asheron's graces.

Lying/cheating/stealing/dishonorable conduct will NOT be tolerated and will be dealt with harshly, with punishments up to and including removal from the Allegiance.

What you get from being allied with us:

Starting characters get basic equipment needs met, with pyreals thrown in for maintaining same. Higher-level characters can petition their Patron, or the Monarch, for better equipment. However, it is strongly encouraged that you go out and get better stuff yourself. This is NOT a charity house; we all must depend upon the strengths of our fellow members, and independence and skill are valued here. A weak, dependent person is of no use to themselves or us. The good items will be passed down the chain, though, as it should be.

A vital commodity is information, and answers to the question "I am X level; what should I do next?" as well as dungeon locations, etc., are to be freely shared within the Allegiance. The only information that is not to be freely shared is of a magickal nature, and such matters as that should be referred to the Senior Mage.

Inscribing this Parchment indicates Your Agreement to the above, and Your Word that You will follow the precepts of this Allegiance. Your word is precious, and should not be given lightly.
